Quick group creation
Create a group, invite friends through phone contacts or share links, and start tracking expenses immediately with zero setup hurdles.
A cleaner way for roommates, travelers, couples, and friends to manage shared expenses without losing track of who owes what.
SplitX was created to eliminate the friction of manually tracking group payments across notes, spreadsheets, and messaging threads. The objective was to make shared spending instantaneous to log, intuitive to audit, and stress-free to settle.
The core challenge was balancing radical simplicity with strict mathematical transparency. Users should never need to parse accounting jargon, but they must always verify exactly why they owe — or are owed — a specific balance.
I structured the project around the complete expense lifecycle: creating a group, adding an expense, selecting a split method, reviewing running balances, discussing discrepancies, and executing one-tap settlements.
Qualitative research focused on the recurring questions users face in group finances: “Who paid?”, “Who owes me right now?”, “How was this split calculated?” and “Has this payment cleared?”
The visual language establishes a calm, neutral foundation paired with vibrant electric green for positive balances and primary call-to-actions. Generously rounded card surfaces prevent dense numerical data from feeling sterile or overwhelming.
Every high-frequency flow adheres to predictable component patterns for amount entry, member tagging, split adjustments, and receipt verification — reducing cognitive overhead as users move across shared groups.
Create a group, invite friends through phone contacts or share links, and start tracking expenses immediately with zero setup hurdles.
Equal division, exact rupee amounts, percentage allocations, and share-based splits accommodate any real-world spending arrangement.
Instead of cryptic double-entry tables, users receive direct plain-English statements outlining who owes whom and the net balance owed.
Every transaction can be audited down to the receipt photo, initial payer, timestamp, and participating members with full edit history.
Group chat threads live directly alongside the shared ledger, preventing payment debates from scattering across WhatsApp or iMessage.
One-tap debt simplification calculates the fewest possible bank transfers to settle all accounts cleanly with zero residual math.
SplitX progressed from foundational field research and UX interaction maps into a live, production iOS application. Featuring seamless group expense tracking, customizable split calculators, contextual ledger chat, and debt-simplification settlement algorithms.
